Bucking Like Horses is a fast read, hot and adventurous. The antics are mad cap, but the underlying story, as it unfolds, is dramatic. Look for the clues. The dialogue is unpredictable, but spot on. You will feel like a fly on the wall, listening, watching, and as the conversations intensify, you'll be tempted to join in.
Although set in the present, the story is written with a Renaissance flair. Bucking Like Horses will take you away and hold you in its world. Great read.
WOW!!!! I am not an avid reader BUT once I started reading this book... I could NOT put it down!!!! The author, Gustaf Von Shields, draws the reader into scandulous and so life-like scenerios!!! Each page gets better and better and I could not wait to see what was going to happen next!!!! A MUST read!!!! I am awaiting his next book or even a theater or movie production!!!!! A+++++++++
I had a long flight from oversees and a friend recomended this book. OH LORD! I got totally hooked up from beggining to end. i also loved to find out my famous jewelry designer girlfriend Evelyn Brooks Designs was also in the book. It was so inspiring to read how the Evelyn Brooks rosary could help someone in this novel give some peace of mind. Can't wait for more novels written by Gustaf. It was TRULY ENTERTAINING, pure JOY & lots of LAUGHS. Passengers looked at me as what in the world was I reading. Get your BOOK NOW;) don't think TWICE!
Rookie author Von Shields has hit a home run with Bucking Like Horses. The reader follows Alejandro and Otto on a journey through the seedy and unforgiving side of Washington D.C. When circumstances beyond his control force the main character (Otto) into an impossible situation - he draws on his god-given talent, ingenuity and will to survive.
A real page turner from the very beginning - "Bucking..." is a truly unique experience. Part fiction, part autobiographical - the author draws on his own experiences to create a milieu and cast of characters reminiscent of those found in the Maltese Falcon.
Bonus tip If you are a lover of classic films (as I am) - there is a real treasure of references to the genre that would make any regular viewer of TCM proud.
Hint The ending is a true gem and Von Shields adroitly sets us up for a sequel - I, for one, can't wait!!!!!!
Quirky and filled with wit and panache. A very entertaining read that leads you on a fantastical romp!! I could not put it down.

The book has a few typos that could be corrected easily. The book was compelling and riveting. I found myself peaking at the next page. Absolutely Amazing!!!! I want more!!!! I did not expect the ending. WOW!!!!! Well done!! I can't wait for the next one to come out.
